Giving Back to the Community
United Way Campaign Kick Off
September marked the United Way kickoff in Central Alberta. This is Group2’s fifth consecutive year supporting the United Way. The official campaign community kickoff was held on September 10th, at the Red Deer Lodge with Trish Jevne, Karlee Hohn, Ray Kluk, Siggi Ropte, Lisa Brown, Robert Oldford, Kevin Mullin and Ashley Grote from the Red Deer Group2 studio in attendance. The luncheon included entrepreneur, philanthropist and TV personality, Brett Wilson, as the keynote speaker as well as the much anticipated announcement of this year’s fundraising goal of $2,103,103. Approximately 79% will be re-invested back into the community and 21% will go to support fundraising and to operate the agency.

Group2’s United Way fundraiser took place September 21- September 25. Group2 staff from the Red Deer studio was divided up into teams and each team participated by coming up with unique and fun activities that helped to keep enthusiasm running high all week long. Some of the activities included a slurpee chugging contest, WII tournament, a “Name That Pet” guessing game, coconut bocce ball and great food. The week ended with the ‘Olu Olu Kokua Luau’ which translates into PLEASE HELP. A Luau was held in the Red Deer studio on Friday, September 25. Staff got into the real hawaiian spirit with drinks for the soul, a roast pig, music, auction, and door prizes!
Currently, the total amount of money raised stands at $11,776.00.
A job well done Group2!
Thank you to Group2 staff for their help in supporting this year’s United Way Campaign.
Best of luck to all those in their continued support and efforts in achieving this year’s fundraising goal!

Giving Back: Santas Anonymous
Edmonton, December 2008. Members of the Edmonton studio volunteered their time last week for a ‘wrapping bee’ with Santas Anonymous. While it was enjoyed by all, it did challenge the wrapping capabilities of some participants. The event continued to build the relationship between the non-profit organization and Group2 and also provided a first-hand opportunity to see the temporary warehousing operation in action. Chris Chevalier and Laura Plosz have been working with the Santas Anonymous group in developing a conceptual design for a new or refurbished office/warehouse building. The fundraising campaign for the project kicked off in December 2008 and is hoped to enable construction of a new facility in late 2009.
